What Does This Blood Test Check?

Our WellMan Blood Test includes a comprehensive range of markers to assess red blood cell health and identify potential nutritional deficiencies.

It includes:

  • Full Blood Count (FBC): checks haemoglobin and red and white blood cells, helping detect anaemia, infection, and other blood-related conditions
  • Kidney Function: includes key kidney markers and electrolytes to assess how well the kidneys are working
  • Liver Function: checks enzymes, proteins, and bilirubin to screen for liver inflammation or disease
  • Bone Profile: includes calcium and phosphate to evaluate bone and mineral balance
  • Lipid Profile: measures cholesterol and triglycerides to assess cardiovascular risk
  • HbA1c: screens for raised blood sugar levels and diabetes risk
  • Thyroid Function Tests (TSH and Free T4): assess whether the thyroid may be underactive or overactive
  • Creatine Kinase (CK): evaluates muscle health and may be useful in assessing muscle-related symptoms
  • Vitamin D: supports bone health, immune function, and overall wellbeing
  • Prostate-Specific Antigen (PSA): helps assess prostate health and screen for potential prostate-related conditions

Who Might Benefit from a Well Man Blood Test?

A WellMan Blood Test may be helpful for men who:

  • feel tired, run down, or low in energy
  • wish to monitor their overall health and wellbeing
  • want reassurance through preventative health screening
  • are concerned about cholesterol, diabetes, or heart disease wish to assess prostate health
  • are over the age of 40 and seeking routine health checks
  • have a family history of chronic medical conditions
  • want to monitor thyroid or metabolic health
  • are focused on proactive and preventative healthcare
  • wish to establish a baseline for long-term wellbeing

This profile is ideal for men seeking a proactive approach to their health.

It is not a substitute for urgent medical assessment. If you have symptoms such as chest pain, severe shortness of breath, significant bleeding, collapse, sudden neurological symptoms, or rapidly worsening illness, you should seek urgent medical attention.

Home Visit WellMan Blood Test

For some patients, a home visit blood test may be a convenient option.

This may suit you if you:

  • have a busy schedule
  • would rather avoid travelling
  • want a more convenient private blood testing experience
  • are arranging a routine health screen from home

Getting the most accurate PSA result

PSA levels can be temporarily raised by factors unrelated to prostate disease. To avoid a falsely elevated result, please avoid the following for at least 48 hours before your test:

  • Ejaculation — can transiently raise PSA for up to 48 hours
  • Heavy exercise or vigorous cycling — mechanical pressure on the prostate can affect levels
  • Heavy lifting — may cause a temporary rise
  • Active urinary tract infection or prostatitis — infection significantly elevates PSA and testing should be deferred until resolved

A raised PSA does not always indicate prostate cancer. Results should always be reviewed in the context of your age, symptoms, and medical history — your GP will discuss this with you as part of your included consultation.

Add-On Blood Tests 🧩

You can now personalise your blood test with optional add-on markers for a deeper look into your health.
These add-ons can be selected easily at checkout and are processed at the same time as your main blood test.

Current add-ons include:

• Vitamin B12 & Folate
Checks essential vitamins linked to energy, mood, and healthy blood cells. Useful if you experience tiredness, follow a plant-based diet, or have a history of low vitamin levels. Included in the Anaemia Screen blood test.

• ESR (Erythrocyte Sedimentation Rate)
A general inflammation marker that can help identify infection or ongoing inflammatory activity. Often helpful for unexplained fatigue, muscle aches, or persistent symptoms.

• Anti-CCP (Cyclic Citrullinated Peptide Antibody)
A specialist test used to detect antibodies linked to autoimmune joint conditions such as early rheumatoid arthritis. Useful for persistent joint stiffness, swelling, or family history of autoimmune disease.

• tTG-IgA (Tissue Transglutaminase Antibody)
A highly sensitive screening test for coeliac disease. Helpful for digestive symptoms, bloating, unexplained nutrient deficiencies, or gluten-related concerns. Best taken while consuming a normal gluten-containing diet.

• Advanced Cardiovascular Risk Markers: ApoB + Lipoprotein(a)
Enhance your test with two advanced cardiovascular markers. Apolipoprotein B (ApoB) shows the number of cholesterol particles that contribute to plaque build-up, while Lipoprotein(a) is a genetic risk factor linked to early heart disease that standard cholesterol tests cannot detect. Together, they provide a clearer, more accurate assessment of long-term cardiovascular risk. Included in the Advanced Heart Health blood test.

Each add-on is reviewed by an AccessGP doctor as part of your included consultation and follow-up.

💡 You can add any of these tests during checkout to personalise your results without needing an extra appointment.

Important Information
  • These tests are part of a medical assessment and do not replace a full health check with your GP.
  • Not all tests are suitable for every patient — our doctors may recommend alternatives if needed – feel free to book an appointment to discuss with one of our GP’s.
  • As an online GP service, potassium is not routinely included in our blood test profiles. This is because results can be unreliable if samples become haemolysed during collection or transport, sometimes causing a falsely high reading. If potassium testing is required, please contact us to discuss appropriate arrangements.

We cannot guarantee specific outcomes, but we will ensure results are reviewed and explained appropriately.

FAQs

Do my results include GP advice?

Yes. Every blood test booked through AccessGP includes a free telephone consultation with one of our GPs once your results are ready. We’ll explain your results in plain language, discuss any next steps and arrange further care or referrals if needed because we want to complete your care journey. After your results are in, we send you a convenient appointment booking link.

Can I book a WellMan Blood Test directly?

Yes, you can order your blood test and start the process by visiting our Blood Testing page. If there is any uncertainty about whether this profile is right for you, we may advise a GP consultation first.

Does AccessGP provide Testosterone Replacement Therapy (TRT)?

AccessGP does not currently provide a Testosterone Replacement Therapy (TRT) service. However, this test is valuable for understanding your baseline testosterone levels. Following review, our GPs can offer guidance and, where appropriate, advise on further investigations or referral to a specialist.

Where can I have my blood test done?

Once you’ve ordered your test, our partner Viva Health Labs (VHL) will send a blood test kit to your home. You then have two options:

  • Visit a partner clinic (bring your kit with you)
  • Book a home visit with an approved phlebotomist

Both options are available across England with 180+ sites for taking blood approved. VHL will contact you directly to arrange the most convenient appointment.

Why is a home visit more expensive?

A home visit blood test includes the additional cost of a trained phlebotomist travelling to you, rather than you attending a clinic. It’s often the most convenient option if you prefer not to travel or have a busy schedule. Our prices for a home visit are competitive with high street blood tests AND include a consultation.

Do I need to post the sample myself?

Yes. The phlebotomist who takes your blood will package the blood, but you must ensure it is posted. If you attend a clinic, the staff there will ensure your sample is also packaged correctly but you must ensure the sample is posted as soon as possible.

Are discounts available on blood tests?

From time to time, we may offer promotional discounts on selected packages. You may also be eligible for a discount if referred through one of our partner pharmacies or employer schemes. Check our website or speak to our team to see if any offers are currently available.

How will I receive my results?

Your results will be sent securely to you by email following processing in the UKAS-accredited lab. A GP will then arrange a telephone consultation to go through them in detail.

Who takes the blood sample?

Blood samples are taken by trained phlebotomists or qualified nurses who are approved by our partner laboratory.

What happens if my results are abnormal?

If anything is outside the normal range, our GP will explain what it means and what steps to take next. This may include further tests, lifestyle changes, or a referral for specialist care if needed.

Can I book a GP appointment after my results?

Yes. If you’d like a longer discussion or ongoing support, you can easily book a GP video or telephone appointment through AccessGP for more personalised care.

Which address will my blood test kit be sent to?

Your kit will be sent to the shipping address you provide at checkout. This address is also used for record and ID verification, so it must be accurate and up to date.

  • Please double-check your details before completing your order.
  • Your billing address is only used for payment purposes.
