What Does This Blood Test Check?

Our Advanced Heart Health Blood Test evaluates key markers associated with cardiovascular risk and metabolic health.

It includes:

  • Full Blood Count: checks haemoglobin and red and white blood cells, which can help identify problems such as anaemia, infection, or other blood-related abnormalities
  • Kidney Function: includes key kidney markers and electrolytes to help assess how well the kidneys are working
  • Liver Function: checks enzymes, proteins, and bilirubin to help screen for liver inflammation or other liver-related concerns
  • Bone Profile: includes markers such as calcium and phosphate, which can provide useful information about bone and mineral balance
  • Lipid Profile: measures cholesterol and triglycerides to help assess cardiovascular risk
  • HbA1c: a marker used to screen for raised blood sugar and diabetes risk
  • Thyroid Tests: includes TSH and free T4, which can help assess whether the thyroid may be underactive or overactive
  • Creatine Kinase: a muscle enzyme that may be useful when looking at muscle health and related symptoms
  • Apolipoprotein B (ApoB): provides a more accurate assessment of atherogenic particles and cardiovascular risk than standard cholesterol tests
  • Lipoprotein(a) [Lp(a)]: a genetic cardiovascular risk marker associated with an increased likelihood of heart disease and stroke

Who Might Benefit from an Advanced Heart Health Blood Test?

A Advanced Heart Health Blood Test may be helpful for adults who:

  • have a family history of heart disease or stroke
  • are concerned about high cholesterol
  • have high blood pressure or diabetes
  • are overweight or obese or looking to optimise their cardiovascular health
  • smoke or have a sedentary lifestyle
  • wish to assess their cardiovascular risk proactively
  • are over the age of 40 and seeking preventative screening
  • are considering lifestyle changes to improve heart health
  • want baseline results before starting cholesterol-lowering treatment

It is also beneficial for individuals seeking reassurance or monitoring known risk factors.

It is not a substitute for urgent medical assessment. If you have symptoms such as chest pain, severe shortness of breath, significant bleeding, collapse, sudden neurological symptoms, or rapidly worsening illness, you should seek urgent medical attention.

Add-On Blood Tests 🧩

You can now personalise your blood test with optional add-on markers for a deeper look into your health.
These add-ons can be selected easily at checkout and are processed at the same time as your main blood test.

Current add-ons include:

• Vitamin B12 & Folate
Checks essential vitamins linked to energy, mood, and healthy blood cells. Useful if you experience tiredness, follow a plant-based diet, or have a history of low vitamin levels. Included in the Anaemia Screen blood test.

• ESR (Erythrocyte Sedimentation Rate)
A general inflammation marker that can help identify infection or ongoing inflammatory activity. Often helpful for unexplained fatigue, muscle aches, or persistent symptoms.

• Anti-CCP (Cyclic Citrullinated Peptide Antibody)
A specialist test used to detect antibodies linked to autoimmune joint conditions such as early rheumatoid arthritis. Useful for persistent joint stiffness, swelling, or family history of autoimmune disease.

• tTG-IgA (Tissue Transglutaminase Antibody)
A highly sensitive screening test for coeliac disease. Helpful for digestive symptoms, bloating, unexplained nutrient deficiencies, or gluten-related concerns. Best taken while consuming a normal gluten-containing diet.

Each add-on is reviewed by an AccessGP doctor as part of your included consultation and follow-up.

💡 You can add any of these tests during checkout to personalise your results without needing an extra appointment.

Important Information
  • These tests are part of a medical assessment and do not replace a full health check with your GP.
  • Not all tests are suitable for every patient — our doctors may recommend alternatives if needed – feel free to book an appointment to discuss with one of our GP’s.
  • As an online GP service, potassium is not routinely included in our blood test profiles. This is because results can be unreliable if samples become haemolysed during collection or transport, sometimes causing a falsely high reading. If potassium testing is required, please contact us to discuss appropriate arrangements.

We cannot guarantee specific outcomes, but we will ensure results are reviewed and explained appropriately.

FAQs

Do my results include GP advice?

Yes. Every blood test booked through AccessGP includes a free telephone consultation with one of our GPs once your results are ready. We’ll explain your results in plain language, discuss any next steps and arrange further care or referrals if needed because we want to complete your care journey. After your results are in, we send you a convenient appointment booking link.

Can I book an Advanced Heart Health Blood Test directly?

Yes, you can order your blood test and start the process by visiting our Blood Testing page. If there is any uncertainty about whether this profile is right for you, we may advise a GP consultation first.

Where can I have my blood test done?

Once you’ve ordered your test, our partner Viva Health Labs (VHL) will send a blood test kit to your home. You then have two options:

  • Visit a partner clinic (bring your kit with you)
  • Book a home visit with an approved phlebotomist

Both options are available across England with 180+ sites for taking blood approved. VHL will contact you directly to arrange the most convenient appointment.

Why is a home visit more expensive?

A home visit blood test includes the additional cost of a trained phlebotomist travelling to you, rather than you attending a clinic. It’s often the most convenient option if you prefer not to travel or have a busy schedule. Our prices for a home visit are competitive with high street blood tests AND include a consultation.

Do I need to post the sample myself?

Yes. The phlebotomist who takes your blood will package the blood, but you must ensure it is posted. If you attend a clinic, the staff there will ensure your sample is also packaged correctly but you must ensure the sample is posted as soon as possible.

Are discounts available on blood tests?

From time to time, we may offer promotional discounts on selected packages. You may also be eligible for a discount if referred through one of our partner pharmacies or employer schemes. Check our website or speak to our team to see if any offers are currently available.

How will I receive my results?

Your results will be sent securely to you by email following processing in the UKAS-accredited lab. A GP will then arrange a telephone consultation to go through them in detail.

Who takes the blood sample?

Blood samples are taken by trained phlebotomists or qualified nurses who are approved by our partner laboratory.

What happens if my results are abnormal?

If anything is outside the normal range, our GP will explain what it means and what steps to take next. This may include further tests, lifestyle changes, or a referral for specialist care if needed.

Can I book a GP appointment after my results?

Yes. If you’d like a longer discussion or ongoing support, you can easily book a GP video or telephone appointment through AccessGP for more personalised care.

Which address will my blood test kit be sent to?

Your kit will be sent to the shipping address you provide at checkout. This address is also used for record and ID verification, so it must be accurate and up to date.

  • Please double-check your details before completing your order.
  • Your billing address is only used for payment purposes.
