Speak to a UK-registered GP via secure online consultation, with same-day or next-day appointments available.
If you have a medical emergency you should contact 999 or go to A&E
Urgent GP appointments, at any time of day, are not a replacement for emergency care.
A medical emergency includes things like:
- Chest pain or symptoms of a heart attack
- Sudden weakness, facial droop or speech problems
- Severe shortness of breath
- Collapse, seizures or loss of consciousness
- Heavy bleeding or major trauma
- Suicidal thoughts or immediate risk to yourself or others
If you develop emergency symptoms whilst waiting for your appointment, please call 999 or attend your closest A&E.
What is an out-of-hours GP appointment?
An out-of-hours GP appointment is a medical consultation provided outside standard NHS GP opening hours, such as:
- Evenings
- Weekends
- Bank holidays
- Periods when your registered GP surgery is closed
AccessGP delivers private out-of-hours GP care via secure video or telephone consultations, allowing you to speak to a qualified GP from home.
When should I book an out-of-hours GP?
An out-of-hours GP appointment may be appropriate if:
- You feel unwell in the evening or at the weekend
- Your NHS GP surgery is closed
- You need timely medical advice before symptoms worsen
- You want assessment, treatment or reassurance outside normal hours
Patients commonly book out-of-hours GP appointments for:
- Assessment of new or worsening medical symptoms, particularly outside normal surgery hours
- Infections requiring clinical judgement, including chest symptoms, fevers, urinary symptoms, or concerns about bacterial infection
- Pain, inflammation, or functional problems where advice or treatment is needed promptly
- Medication-related issues, including side effects, interactions, or advice on ongoing prescriptions
- Review of ongoing health problems that have deteriorated and cannot safely wait until routine GP access
- Mental health and wellbeing concerns, including acute stress, anxiety, sleep disturbance, or low mood.
- Clinical advice on whether hospital attendance, further investigation, or urgent referral is required
If your condition is life-threatening, you should call 999 or attend A&E immediately.
