If you want clarity or reassurance about your current medication, AccessGP offers private online medication reviews with experienced UK-registered doctors.
We provide calm, structured review of side effects, interactions, long-term safety and whether your treatment still makes sense for you, without long NHS waits.
If you have a medical emergency you should contact 999 or go to A&E
Medication reviews are not a replacement for emergency care.
A medical emergency includes things like:
- Chest pain or symptoms of a heart attack
- Sudden weakness, facial droop or speech problems
- Severe shortness of breath
- Collapse, seizures or loss of consciousness
- Heavy bleeding or major trauma
- Suicidal thoughts or immediate risk to yourself or others
If you develop emergency symptoms whilst waiting for your appointment, please call 999 or attend your closest A&E.

What happens in a medication review appointment?
Your medication review takes place online by video or phone, usually on the same day at a time of your choosing.
During your consultation, your GP will:
- Review your current medication list, including doses and how you take them
- Confirm the reason each medication was started and what it is intended to achieve
- Ask targeted questions to assess benefit, side effects, and any red flags
- Check for interactions, duplication, and medicines that may be contributing to symptoms
- Discuss monitoring needs, including whether blood tests may be appropriate
- Agree a clear plan, including continuation, adjustment, or a cautious reduction plan when appropriate
- Safety-net clearly and advise when urgent in-person assessment or hospital care is required
We focus on safe, responsible GP-led care, not rushed consultations.
This service is delivered through a standard AccessGP private GP consultation.

Medication reviews and prescriptions
Where clinically appropriate, our GPs can prescribe medication during an appointment, including issuing a private prescription when it is safe and necessary following a proper medical assessment.
We do not prescribe controlled drugs.
If a prescription is not suitable, we will explain why and discuss alternative options, including monitoring, self-care, or NHS pathways when appropriate.
How quickly can I be seen?
Medication review appointments are typically available the same day, subject to availability.
You can book online in minutes and receive confirmation immediately.

FAQs on online medication review GP appointments
Can you tell me if my medication is causing side effects?
Yes. We can review likely medication side effects in the context of your symptoms and history. If needed, we may advise monitoring, dose adjustment, switching options to discuss with your NHS GP, or further assessment.
Can you help me reduce or stop a medication?
Potentially. If it is clinically appropriate, we can discuss a cautious plan and safety-netting. Some medications should not be stopped suddenly. We will explain the safest approach.
Do I need blood tests?
Not always. If monitoring is overdue or clinically indicated, we may recommend blood tests. This can be arranged through your NHS GP or privately.
Can you take over my repeat prescriptions?
For long-term repeat medication, we encourage continuity with your registered NHS GP. We can issue private prescriptions where appropriate.
Is this suitable for mental health medication?
Yes, we can review common medications such as antidepressants and anxiety treatments. More complex psychiatric management may require specialist input.
