We’ll outline expected fee ranges and any preparation requirements during your consultation, so you can book with confidence.

What to expect at your scan

Arrival & safety checks: You’ll complete a short safety questionnaire.

Preparation: Some scans may require fasting, hydration, or avoiding certain medicines.

Contrast dye: Occasionally used to improve imaging—your scan provider will explain benefits/risks.

Time on site: Many ultrasound/X‑ray appointments take minutes; MRI/CT typically longer.

Afterwards: Most people can resume normal activities straight away.

Who this service is for (and not for)

Suitable for: non‑urgent symptoms where imaging may clarify a diagnosis (e.g., persistent joint pain, recurrent abdominal discomfort, headaches assessed by a GP, soft‑tissue lumps, women’s and men’s health concerns).

Not suitable for: medical emergencies, red‑flag symptoms needing immediate hospital care (e.g., severe chest pain, sudden weakness, major trauma, heavy bleeding). If you think it’s an emergency, call 999 or attend A&E.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need insurance?

No. This is a self‑pay pathway. You’ll pay the imaging provider directly.

Your medical insurance may cover the cost of the scan. Be sure to discuss this with your imaging provider once we have referred you. We can mention it in our referral also, just let us know.

Can you refer me without a GP consultation?

We need to assess you first to ensure the correct and safe test. Book online for an appointment.

How quickly can I get scanned?

Availability varies by location and scan type. Many centres offer appointments within days and sometimes same day appointments.

Are there any risks?

Ultrasound and MRI do not use ionising radiation. X‑ray/CT do. Your GP will only recommend imaging when benefits outweigh risks and will discuss alternatives.

I might be pregnant—can I still be scanned?

Tell us and the imaging team. Some scans may be postponed or alternatives used.

Will I get images?

We’ll receive the official radiology report. Many providers can share images on request.

What if the scan is normal but I still have symptoms?

We’ll review next steps, including management plans, lifestyle support, or onward referral.

Do you prescribe medicines or arrange physiotherapy?

Yes – where clinically appropriate, we can prescribe treatments or refer for onward assessments (e.g. virtual physiotherapy) depending on the result of the scan.
